| Penalties: Number-Yards....... MJC 10-107 LC 13-105. Seems to me the penalties were a wash in this game. Anyone know if an injury to Cotta effected the play calling? With 23 penalties did anyone else notice the dramatics of the white hat when signaling the call? Not to oversimplify but from my view high atop the bleachers and upon review of the broadcast on Peralta TV Saturday, Laney played bigger, stronger and faster than the Pirates on that Friday night. Done deal, but now there is Merced. Anyone remember last year's game? The two teams will play at Modesto for the Gateway Cup this Saturday Night at 7:00 PM. Should be the last time the Pirates play under the poor lights and in front of the dilapidated scoreboard. Last game for a talented group of sophomores. | |

| Hooligan, It doesn't make it better if the penalties were a wash. The point is, when do you finally take a stand on the continuous big penalty makers and become more disciplined. And as for Cotta getting possibly injured in that game, that didn't seem to be the case because I saw him playing on the punt team. He also looked like a caged cat pacing back and forth on the sidelines for 3 quarters waiting to get back in. They played him on the last big drive to block for the QB and they went to the other end of the field with him in. And as for Laney playing bigger, stronger, and faster, they did for the last 3 quarters. But looked confused and tired the 1st quarter. The play calling for this game just didn't seem to be right. But I agree that the game is over and now on to the Merced game. I think the Pirates will regroup and put on a great showing and hopefully make it to a bowl game and end the season strong.

| Can MJC still be in their own bowl game or any other bowl game if they win next week, or are they out of the running completely? Anybody who runs the site like admin or Batteatte's dad, know? Hooligan? Thanks for any answer in advance. | |

| A lot of VOL kids are out there for MJC,I seen Daniels had a couple of pretty good runs out of the backfield, QB Combs hit Batteate in endzone who looks to be playing in the Slot and I seen Hall from Sierra Kicking PAT. This team has only 2 starters on D and they are moving up to the top division. | |

| The move up to Tier 1 will present a good challenge for MJC this season. This Wednesday is the Blue/White scrimmage which will show case a more game like atmosphere.
As Playball mentioned the team is loaded with VOL talent and hopefully those players will earn an opportunity to see the field and contribute to the Pirate program in 2010.

| Hopefully all players show something. I don't think being from the VOL will have anything to do with it. It will be very tough in the new conf. That's what winning and having great players the past few years will do for you, though. | |

| MJC looked OK at the Blue and White Scrimmage.I hate to say this ,but lasts year team would have beat them easily at this point. Some of the new players had some nice plays including RB #39 and Hall from Sierra. MJC only went to their big play makers a few times compared to last year when they seen alot of action in this game. MJC needs alot of work and they only have 9 days to get ready! IMO MJC needs to keep their regular O on the field more often! | |

| Last year MJC had 8 returners compared to 2 this year. MJC might have 3 returning players on O. Moving up will not help things for MJC. Playball lets give this team a chance in a real football game and then we can talk. | |

| I can see how down and distance can dictate specific packages on offense. However for a offensive unit to gel you can't have a revolving door on every other play. I trust that was just a scrimmage thing which makes sense given you want to see all the players and what they got.
Scrimmages have a way of making you look better than you are or worse than you are.
I trust that they'll pull it together cuz I think the talent is there and the coaches will get the most out of these athletes come Sac City.

| All of the teams in MJC's Conference lost, except Delta, they beat Up Merced 49-ZIP! The bad news was that all of the teams that lost played teams in the top 10 State Rankings except for the team that MJC played, they were ranked 25th. | |

| SacCity is a game you have to win if you want to have enough wins to get to a bowl. League is going to be brutal if you can't score more than 20 against SacCity. They have been able to put up 50 or more points against these guys. | |

| This is great however IF were passing the ball 50+ times a game we have big issues in that we can't run the ball and/or were behind all the time and playing catch up.
Must have a run game IMO.

| I agree you must play as a team and that comes first. It's just this team has built a very good reputation the past 3-4 years of being one of the best in Northern Cal by winning and winning often against teams like Laney, Delta, West Hills, etc. It has allowed them to move back up to the top of a cal football conf. for the first time in years. It would be a shame to see them not continue. A JC program is turned over every year, and you can win at the JC level with a lot of freshman. MJC proved that. It's true that any football team needs to be balanced offensively to win consistently, though. | |

| Thanks TD..
Sorta makes the point that this team is essentially made up of a significant amount of 1st year players who are still getting their legs under them, and working out the 1st year 1st game jitters..
This week if the boys can cut out the brain fart penalties, reduce the big "ouch" plays on defense, and at least attempt to establish a balanced attack on offense, I think their gonna be just fine.

| Actually, MJC has 8 offensive players (3wrs- 2 starters, fb starter, te starter, and 3OL- starters)that saw significant playing time and 4 returning defenders that saw good playing time on the field. The year before that in 08 they had QB, 2RBS , 1wr, 2OL that started as freshman and 2DL, 2LB, AND 1 OR 2 DBs that started as freshman. That team won league and the section while last year's team won their bowl game. You're talking about half or more of the starters in their first year getting on the field and playing at a pretty high level. It can happen with freshman is all I'm saying. A team does have to come together and having good soph players can help with that. The more you have the better. That's for sure. They should be able to win this weekend I believe against Hartnell. | |
