| I read on another forum that the defending champion MJC team will have another great team this 2009 season and maybe 2010 picking up Stephan Mathes from Merced and Nicky Batteatte from Oakdale.Anyone out there know where Bolden from Merced or the running back from Whitney(Zack Graves) going to play? | |

| There was some speculation a week or so ago that Orestimba/Modesto JC, QB Greg Panelli was going to get an offer from San Jose State (WAC) and/or the University of Cincinnati (Big East) for this fall. Anyone have any word?
Is Trevor Mew QB @ Central Valley planning to attend MJC? I saw him on the sidelines at the 2008 Graffiti Bowl. He is on the south roster for the Lions All-star game on June 20th at UOP.
I heard that Nick Batteatte was considering running track for ASU.
I also heard that former MJC OL Casey Carver was considering offers from University of Montana, Western and Delta State in Mississippi.

| I hope MJC don't lose Panelli, but if they pick up Mew they should be OK.Batteatte will be playing football at MJC.We could get a preview of Mew hooking up with Batteatte as a receiver at the Lions all-star game June 20 UOP. | |

| The governor's cost cutting proposals for higher education includes limiting physical education classes to non-credit status. As I understand it this will reduce funding for PE courses by 60% and will impact their ability to pay coaches, travel and field athletic teams in general. The Gov also wants to eliminate the state Cal Grant program and that will reduced financial aid to many needy student athletes.
I also learned that the community college football will no longer have a pre-season scrimmage on their schedules, reducing the season to 10 games. College of Marin eliminated football all together.

| Does anyone know if Panelli is staying at MJC? I watched a few of his games and he looked good throwing to Allen and co.
Also, has anybody heard anything on the LBs Wallace and Cozart from last season. They were also great to watch. That was a fast good group.
It was always fun to have Friday night games to see and then be able to go watch these kids at the next level.

| Buddy Wallace has a full ride to University of Mary. He will be joining fellow Oakdale wrestling and football teammate, Martin Patron, in North Dakota.
I also heard Scott Cozart got married recently and football may not be his first priority at this time.
Outstanding O linemen, Casey Carver, got his ride at Delta State in Cleveland, Mississippi, a fine D-2 football school.
I read were Greg Panelli was being courted by Cleveland Cincinnati or San Jose State, but hear he has been a regular at MJC workouts this summer. A number of players on the Lions South All-star team are attending MJC summer workouts and 7 on 7.
Trevor Mew, Nicky Batteate, and Ronyea Ellington are among those planning to play at MJC.
Bubba McGill has a full ride to Concordia in Minnesota and Rubal Sangha told me he is looking forward to playing for JC national champions, Butte College.
TJ Belton will wrestle either in North Dakota or at Cal Baptist.
QB's Boomer Green and Trevor Mew should light up UOP tomorrow night!

That was a great post, glad someone is keeping up with all this.
What are your thoughts on MJC this coming year ? What players do you pick to move on after this coming season is over ?

| Wipe out, I'm looking for the chain to be unbroken! Back to Back To Back Championships! Only time will tell who of this group of possible returners will maintain the academic standards and who have committed to conditioning needed to climb to the next level. The team roster will be posted I suspect late August and we will see who of the class of 2009 make the cut. Exciting possibilities for the Pirates 2009 season. The season begins at home with San Joaquin Delta College, September 5th! Six home games this season.

| Thanks Hooligan! that was very informative. It's good to see these players getting recognized for their work on and off the field. I watched some of these kids in high school and followed a couple to MJC and found myself enjoying watching these games more than the high school games. The MJC crowd really gets into the game and supports ALL of the players. You don't always get that at some high shools with the fans. It's just really nice to see.
I know MJC lost most their O-line and others on offense and defense, but which returning players do think will step it up this year on both sides of the ball and show some leadership, work ethic, and all around good play?

| I know it's the dead period for high school and ithings are slow, but MJC has started. I thought I'd ask if anyone has seen how the team is doing? It seems they're in full swing based on the dates from the previous post. Are they doing much yet? It said they're in mini camp and have had athletic testing already. Anything good so far? Any players or positions looking any good, or not so good? Observations or thoughts? | |

| It's all good at MJC. I've been by to check things out and I'm impressed. Lots of speed on offense. Depth at the QB position bodes well for the season. Receivers have good hands and want the ball. Returning QB Greg Panneli noted that the defense was looking real good this early. Some very big linemen. I was wowed with the conditioning of Travis Winan and Oliver Pryor. Camaraderie and team spirit is high among the returners. Some impressive freshmen and 2nd year players have come to play. With 100 or more players, coaches have begun making cuts and those remaining will pad up next week. The first good look will come at the Blue and White Game on August 27th. Be there to form your own opinion. http://www.modbee.com/sports/story/808983.html[img] [/img] | |

| I'm glad to hear it's going well. It's been so quiet around here, I thought everybody left. There was a lot of posts earlier in the summer of kids going to MJC and then all of a sudden nothing. I figured there would be a lot of talk on here regarding the team, especially since practice has started. I guess no one is watching practices or has somebody on the team to give some insight except Hooligan. I do appreciate all the work you're putting in to this, Hooligan. That's really nice of you. I need to get out there and check out a practice or two myself.
That Blue and White game sounds pretty interesting. Based on that article it's taking the place of the scrimmage game against San Mateo. Should be fun to watch some hitting out there. That pass and run bowl should be interesting to watch, too. Hopefully a lot of people turn out for it all.

| http://www.mercedsunstar.com/194/story/1002124.htmlIt looks like Modesto is ranked 11th in Northern California and 21st in the entire state. Way to go Pirates!!!! I think there are around 90 JC schools in the state if I'm not mistaken. That's pretty impressive for a little local school in these parts. I'm not too happy with Laney being ranked over Modesto since they beat them last year for the conference titile, but they just need to be taken care of on the field. Hopefully they'll get run over again. | |

They weren't even ranked in the top 20 for Northern Cal at the beginning of last season, nor were they ranked at all in the top 25 in state. They finished very well, though, at 9th for N. Cal and 18th for state. I just thought that was really good to be thought of that high before the season starts. It seems MJC has earned a lot of respect from all the winning and talent they've put on the field this past year. Of course, this leads to high expectations, but it also helps in so many other areas. This has to help recruiting for 4 yr. programs, recruiting for MJC, and scheduling.
